What is a box?

Though it's hard to find exactly where the term "Box" came from, in general any local CrossFit Gym can be considered a "Box." David Tao of greatist.com wrote an article listing common CrossFit Lingo and his explanation of what a CrossFit Box is as follows "A box is a barebones gym to some, but heaven to a CrossFitter. While many CrossFitters train on their own from home or non-CrossFit gyms, “boxes” have all the equipment necessary for the range of WODs (more on those below) without the bells, whistles, and bicep curl bars of a “chrome-and-tone” gym." So why call your practice "Box Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine?"

I enjoy CrossFit as a form of exercise and am also a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer. The main reason why I called this practice Box Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine is because I like working with CrossFit athletes and appreciate the overall culture of CrossFit in general. To me, a "Box" is not only a CrossFit Gym, it's a community of like-minded individuals who are looking to achieve better fitness. Some athletes are doing CrossFit because of the competitive side of the sport, while others are participating because they want to live better lives. I say "Boxes" are a community because you'll always find people supporting each other regardless of the level of fitness. Everyone who enters a "Box" brings with them life experience, whether that be their occupation, their family, or their individuality that contributes to the culture that is unique to each "Box." At the same time, every CrossFit athlete shares the overarching sense of community and culture that the sport and brand itself brings at a global level. If you're traveling outside of your town or state or even country, you'll always know that the coaches and members of other "Boxes" will support you in the Workout of the Day.

It's that sense of community that I want to convey within my own practice. I want my patients, clients, whomever I'm working with to know that they're being supported by my Practice. I also hope to one day open a "Box" of my own one day that has my clinic integrated as well as a cafe that serves food, drinks, etc. that is aligns with "Box" culture.
